Three Strategies For Keeping Your Company Relevant
beafields I talk with Generation Y careerists every day, and the topic of keeping a company relevant seems to come up over and over again. And…when I talk to the senior leaders in companies, they often ask “How can I keep my company relevant given all that’s going on in the world and given the rapid changes happening in our workforce?”
I have 3 quick suggestions offered up by some top leaders to help address question:
1) Develop both a Distributed Innovation Group (DIG) and an Enterprise Integration Group (EIG.). An explanation of both is in the recent HBR article by Cash, Earl and Morison.
2) Drop your assumptions about what might work, and talk to your customers. Ask 50 people who are customers of your company what they are purchasing most often and why. Look closely at the repeating patterns in these answers to keep your company ahead of the curve.
3) Develop and then implement a youth advisory board which includes folks ages 16-25. Jones Soda is doing a great job with this one initiative, and I believe this is critical to our ability to stay ahead in the future.
