Generation Y: Your Voice Has Been Heard
beafields Exit polls are showing that 18% of all votes yesterday came from voters 18-29, and I heard on Fox News this morning that Generation Y voted Obama 2 to 1. While the percentage of young voters is not up from 2004, it is apparent that Generation Y did come out and their votes most certainly had an impact on this election.
I believe that Obama’s victory is a symbol of a new era in history…not only for African Americans but for our young adults and children. Obama’s campaign alone shows that we cannot continue doing things as we have always done them and expect the same results. This man did his job by not only reaching out to Generation Y but by asking them to serve on his campaign in advisory roles. If President-Elect Obama can respect Generation Y enough to place an emphasis on them, why can’t you?
If you are someone who does not understand the full impact of Generation Y and the influence they are having and will continue to have in the future, the time is now to start getting to know them and embrace them. They are our future!
Congratulations President-Elect Obama. I look forward to watching you as you usher in a new generation of leaders over the next four years.
